key_001.jpgIn October 2012key_004.jpg, the Milarepa Retreat Center in Schneverdingen, Germany, has been inaugurated. It is a major center for the practice of the Drikung Kagyu teachings, passed down through the centuries by enlightened masters. This center is the manifestation/realization of a long-cherished wish and vision of His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang. Unfortunately, due to his ill health, His Holiness was unable to attend the formal inauguration. Last week Dr. Elmar R. Gruber from the Garchen Foundation together with Tsering Geleg Pangri paid a visit to His Holiness to convey the greetings and well wishes of the Executive Board of the Foundation, who took the responsibility to construct and manage the center. As a symbolic gesture, His Holiness were handed the keys of the center, thus expressing the intention of the Foundation to fulfill the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang’s vision that the Milarepa Retreat Center may be a center representing the entire Drikung Kagyu Lineage, whose Supreme Head is His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang.

key_003.jpgHis Holiness expressed his great happiness about the completion of the center and his hopes that from there not only the teachings may radiate but also that the Drikung Kagyu may be firmly rooted as a practice lineage in the West. His Holiness and Garchen Rinpoche will act as patrons of the center. In order to secure the purity of the tradition and the best quality in the teachings and practice of the Lineage, His Holiness has appointed Ven. Khenchen Konchog Gyaltsen as Drubpön and Spiritual Director of the Milarepa Retreat Center. In close consultation with His Holiness and Garchen Rinpoche, Khenchen Rinpoche will devise the program of practice and teachings and lead the Three Year Retreat at the Milarepa Retreat Center that will start in the fall of 2014.
